 A Little History

The Buffalo Chips hasn’t always been the biggest running club in the state capital. It all started with several running buddies hoisting beers at the Buffalo Club in midtown Sacramento in early 1974. They decided to enter the Camellia 100-Mile Relay as a team and asked the bar to sponsor them. The Buffalo Club gave them 10 yellow singlets with the logo on the back and the Chips ran as a team at the 10-person relay race from Sacramento to Marysville and back. It’s still a little fuzzy where the Chips came from. Though early sponsors for the Buffalo Stampede did include not only the Buffalo Club, but the Buffalo Potato Chip Company, and the Buffalo Brewing Co. And while the bar, potato chips, and brewery are no longer in business, the Buffalo Chips are still running strong.
